A Commenter’s Wisdom
One of my reader’s left a comment on my other site which I thought had a strong message. The words spoken could not have been said any better, so I decided to share it with the readers of this site:
Lucid wrote on Spiritual Suggestions:
“Love yourself, for no one else can love you better.”
“God is love, and you are of He”
A wise friend told me that if anyone else talked to me the way I talk to myself, I would never be their friend. My hair, weight, complexion - etc. How true! I am learning to forgive myself and that takes learning to love myself for who I am, not what everyone else thinks I should be.
I have nothing more to say to this then, “Amen!”

Good morning,
I loved what Joyce wrote. To know ones self is to love yourself…. you project a better picture of yourself. When you get down to what you like about your self others will see what a wonderful person you are and can be. If people walk around being miserable all the time you will project yourself as a grump all the time and then folks will shy away from you. I find I am in a good mood most of the time and therefore people gravitate towards me. I am a people person, and can usually see good in a bad situation. Or I will try to help someone to turn their thoughts around to see the light at the other end of the tunnel. I do love myself and hope that others will love me to for whom I am.

Joyce is right! It’s so easy to fall into the pattern of criticising ourselves. I think it is because we compare ourselves with someone else’s idea of perfection. And all it is is just an idea, not truth!

Good Monday morning to you, Lucid.
The best thing I ever did this last year was begin to be good to myself. First time in my life, and boy, does it make a huge difference.
I no longer treat myself viciously, nor allow anyone in my life who does either, under the guide of ‘love”.
Hard work, to get there, and incredibly well worth it.

How often do we do this. It is so sad really! I am not sure if I can actually say that I know a woman who is totally satisfied with themselves….. When I look at men, I see that they really don’t care that their hair is a mess or that their butt is too big
….. Or best yet, their nails aren’t done lmao… We pu ourselves through too much!

This is very powerful. Our inner voice can be our undoing or it can be our muse, our cheerleader, etc. We must be aware of all the thoughts that we produce.

I have never been comfortable in my skins! I have always worried if my thighs are too big, butt is too wide, boobs too small. . . . I still to this day try to stop myself when I start downing every lil flaw. Joyce is right, if I were to have some outsider talk to me the way I talk to and about myself, there would be a fight or a shout out at the least!

Joyce’s comment draws attention to the fact we seldom realize we attract mirror images of the treatment we give ourselves. If you criticize yourself, it shouldn’t surprise you to be inviting critical or insecure people into your life.
However, if you choose to be loving and forgiving, then you will naturally be drawn to embrace and accept similar-minded people who nurture a kind soul. As we begin to believe that Higher Forces are always by our sides, based on our own choice actually, then self-created fear about anything will disappear.

Gosh Sophia, that is what it mostly boils down to….. “Someone else’s idea” Why do we give so much time and effort to please others????

We can be our worst critic - so stink’n true… We can be so hard on ourselves it can easily become abusive! I am so glad to hear that you let go of that, and you are in a better relationship with yourself!!!!

I think you have a point here. .. If we pay attention to our thoughts and their process, we will have more control over them, to stop them when they are negative, and allow them when they are positive.

What’s that old saying? To Thine Ownself be True….??? Easier said than done sometimes - especially for women in our culture, so indundated with messages that we’re not ‘good enough’ just as we are. But when I began to truly LIKE being me, and CELEBRATED being me…my whole world began shifting!
