Meditation:
While listening to the American Indian drum rolling, I found myself in the middle of the forest. There were many trees standing almost as tall as the sky, others were broken. Their trunks had been hollowed out by the animals who made them their homes.

There were big green and small yellow-brown leaves that blanketed the ground. They were layered in a beautiful pattern. It was quite shaded. All the tree limbs seem to inter-lock with each other, as if to shield and protect. Because the forest was so dense, the sun had to squeeze its rays through any crack it could find. But it was nice not having the sun blaring directly in my eyes.

As I walked down a narrow dirt path, I could smell the earth beneath my feet. I could also smell all the different kinds of woods combined into one, like a bowl of potpourri; It was very pleasant.

I looked as I walked down the path to see if I could see any animals, but I did not. I heard the sound of running water in the distance. I wanted to see where it was coming from, so I veered off the path, and followed the sound which directed me to the water.

I could see up ahead a small stream trickling. The suns’ light reflected off the water. It kept flashing. It was as if, it was calling out to me. It seemed it was trying to get my attention.

I went over to it, and put my hand in the water. It was cool and refreshing. The water was very clear. I could see through to the little pebbles that lye beneath.

I sat there quietly for a few minutes just spreading my fingers so that the water could flow in-between them. It was very peaceful there, no cars, airplanes, sirens, or people. I happen to turn my head to the right and saw a small deer approaching the water. She approached with caution to drink. Her fur was a warm brown and the tail was as white as snow.

I moved over to greet the deer, and give it a little touch/pet. It’s big, beautiful, almost black eyes, told me that she had trust.

As I placed my hand on her, I, myself, turned into a deer. I rubbed my head gently against hers, and then we both began to walk back into the forest.

After that I came out of the mediation session feeling enlightened and peaceful. I had a reassuring feeling of connectivity to the animal kingdom; it was nice!
